Bringing Mindfulness into the Workspace (Berkeley Library PD)

April 11th, 2022: Awareness/mindfulness is the foundation

Whether it be for work or in our personal life, awareness is the key element in ensuring that our perception about what is happening is accurate so that our actions can be effective. We need awareness to notice our biases and how they influence our interpretations. We need awareness to track the impact of our choices so that we can self correct and adapt to changing circumstances. This session will explore the state of full awareness or mindfulness, as a way to operate at our full capacity.

April 25th, 2022: Reconnecting to what matters

Where we place our attention is critical, as it determines our sense of reality. Being captivated in thoughts not only takes us away from what is actually happening, it generates stories that are inherently unreliable. This session will demonstrate some of the pitfalls of the mind, and will experiment with broadening the attention to include somatic and emotional information to give us a clearer picture of what is actually going on.

May 9th, 2022: Session 3: Mindful Communication

This session builds on the previous two: staying grounded and present during conversations and paying attention to motivations versus the story created by words. Speakers will practice staying embodied during conversations in order to stay connected to their original intentions while being able to track their impact on others. Listeners will practice attuning to nonverbal cues such as body language, tone of voice and the subtle underlying emotions; to get a fuller understanding of what the speaker is actually wanting to say.
