Using Mindfulness to Foster Belonging

“The opposite of Othering is not “saming”, it is belonging. And belonging does not insist that we are all the same. It means we recognise and celebrate our differences, in a society where “we the people” includes all the people.”

-John A Powell

Join us in exploring how mindfulness can be used to foster a more connecting, inclusive and equitable workplace.

Through a series of guided meditation and hands-on activities, this session will offer a safe space for participants to discover the root cause for “othering” and see why this conditioning is so pervasive and hard to break. By investigating how the mind works, participants will witness how limiting beliefs are formed and how easy it can be to shift the view from differences being a problem to one where differences are a source of richness and strength.

This experiential workshop will use mindfulness to:

  • investigate the mind’s tendency to build distorted stories that have a real physical and emotional impact on us and others

  • examine what causes stories to solidify into limiting core beliefs that lead to real disconnection and harm

  • use inquiry to identify and uproot biases

  • engage in activities that foster connection, collaboration and celebrate diversity
